Celtic Grave Slab

Ferbane / Co. Offaly

The early Irish monks were not supposed to mark their own graves. However mainly in Co. Offaly there were a number of exceptions. The grave slabs at Clonmacnois are best known but this one is part of a group at Gallen priory Ferbane. The slabs date from the 8th to 11th centuries.
