Go!

A image from my Sports Photography class assignment #2. Panning.

In this assignment we have to use a slow shutter speed relative to the speed of the subject and use a panning technique to blur the background and try to keep the subject in the sharpest focus possible.

This is from the mens indoor/outdoor track practice at the University of Tennessee at Stokley Athletic center.

I know I broke some traditional rules of composition by not allowing my subject to have "room" to move thru the frame. But I put him on the edge of the frame to help represent his speed in a subtle way. Get it?

Great shot. I think the composition works great -- it's as if he's going so fast, you almost missed him.

You nailed this one James. His head and torso are razor sharp. The BG and his faster arms and legs are all properly blurred. Very fine B&W also.
