20060207 Cheapside

Bampton, Oxfordshire

It's probably just hopeless nostalgia, but I find it sad how the English
countryside in general and old cottages in particular have been improved, gentrified
and sanitised. This is a very rare example of a run-down imperfect cottage
that would once have been common-place in Southern England.

B&W February PAD version:

It's just what I imagine of the the English Countryside. Time for a visit I think.

Wonderful image John, I love the windows...but it is a bit of a fixer upper!

My guess is that it's been lived in by a spinster since 1949. A lovely capture and hope you were brave enough to get a close up of that flaking door!

Bravo John, this is great, it has just a bit more than the B&W version, I like it.

I'm with you. It's a heritage never to come again. I love both images John.

Very nice shot! Sad to say my neighborhood in the US, older house are being replace by "Track Mansions" or "McMansions" which are large houses that are much to big for the lot size. Sad to watch.

Love the charm and personality of this wonderful old cottage! I prefer the color version with its wonderful blue door and trim! Love the detail of the upper windows! Nice shot with lots of atmosphere!
