To answer your question, Jerry - we have a working historic mill in our county park system. It's a great place for pictures - and picking up interesting bits of trivia. French burr is the hardest rock ever used for millstones and has a distinctive pock-marked appearance. The area (near Paris) where much of the early mining was done is pretty much quarried out and the huge monolithic stones are no longer available except on the secondary market. Smaller stones are still available and are segmented, cemented and banded together. And now you know a whole lot more about millstones than you ever wanted to know :-) Bev

Inteeresting, Bev. I like how the greenery is all dusty. It goes perfectly with the millstones. Nice composition.

Nice shot, Bev. The greenery provides an attractive contrast to the stones.
I can see identifying the granite, but how in the heck did you identify the other as "French Buhr"?
