When the sun goes down - Arctic Monkeys - by gmc

New British band just number one last week -

Who's that girl there?
I wonder what went wrong
So that she had to roam the streets
She dunt do major credit cards
I doubt she does receipts
It's all not quite legitimate

And what a scummy man
Just give him half a chance
I bet he'll rob you if he can
Can see it in his eyes,
That he's got a driving ban
Amongst some other offences

And I've seen him with girls of the night
And he told Roxanne to put on her red light
It’s all infected but he'll be alright
Cause he's a scumbag, don't you know
I said he's a scumbag, don't you know!

Although you're trying not to listen
Overt your eyes and staring at the ground
She makes a subtle proposition
“Sorry love I'll have to turn you down”

He must be up to something
What are the chances sure it’s more than likely
I've got a feeling in my stomach
I start to wonder what his story might be

They said it changes when the sun goes down
Around here

Look here comes a Ford Mondeo
Isn't he Mister Inconspicuous?
And he don't have to say 'owt
She’s in the stance ready to get picked up

Bet she's delighted when she sees him
Pulling in and giving her the eye
Because she must be freezing
Scantily clad beneath the clear night sky
it doesn't stop in the winter, no
Around here

They said it changes when the sun goes down
Over the river going out of town

What a scummy man
Just give him half a chance
I bet he'll rob you if he can
Can see it in his eyes that he's got a nasty plan
I hope you're not involved at all

Fits, it certainly fits :-)

Hey girls, thanks for the comments - I have to admit to adding the girl as I was too cold to wait around for the people that I knew would arrive soon to make it authentic. And before Big Ga has a go at me it was all perfectly normal and legal :) just the song takes it to a different level.
The snowy look is just 3200 iso pushed a bit. I also blanked the number plate to give it that police surveillance video look. B&W with a little colour provided by a tri-x curve I found on the net somewhere.
cheers Gerard

Gerard, can you give me the link for the tri-x curve please? it was one of my favourite films in the "old" days.
Flick.

I think this image matches the song amazingly well. The more I look at it the more haunting it appears to be. Kate

This is what I like to see! A photo that expresses what the song is about. Glad you captured the lyrics so nicely.

This photo couldn't have been more perfect given the lyrics. Excellent Gerard!

PS: amd viewing on my laptop - is that another figure by the car...sorry, 12" screen not ideal for this, I'll look on my big screen tomorrow...bedtime now.
Flick.

I wonder if you have any idea what an intriguing image you've created here. It looks as if it's taken through a rainy, snowy or misted up windscreen.
Who is the female figure? Is she connected to the car in front? Is it a threat to her, or her lift, or a lover come to collect her? And who took the picture, what connection is there between the three elements of car, woman and photographer.
The whole scene is like a snapshot of a time and place and story unknown to the viewer.
And, oh, wow, i wrote this before reading the words - which i've now just read.
Genius!
