Did you ever shoot a man
And watch his silly face
As the bullet rips through his liver
And he sees the bloody place

And when you stick the bayonet
He stands there looking dumb
Like the time he watched the doctor
Lance an abscess on his thumb

And then he looks offended
That you would hurt him so
(sure pal, nothing was intended
Just an accident you know)

I’ve done my share of killing
And the blood is on my hand
But I could never keep from laughing
When I shot or stuck a man
