The North/South Korea Border

The conference huts in the Joint Security Area. The blue ones were built by the UN, the grey ones by North Korea. The huts all straddle the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) equally. That line can be seen clearly at the far right, where the grass changes colour. Behind is the North Korean building called Panmungak. Visible in the picture are three South Korean Military Police and one North Korean soldier on the steps of Panmungak. Since the Axe Murder Incident of 1976 (refer to the Bridge Of No Return photograph), the two sides stick to their respective sides of the MDL.
