Georgetown's oldest and classiest hotel, the Eastern and Oriental, was close to my hotel, and I went there for afternoon tea after a day's sightseeing. The E&O was founded by the same people as Raffles. It also dates from the late 19th century and has had an eventful history. Unlike Raffles, it is calm and peaceful as it does not receive the same large numbers of casual visitors.
