The remains of an old tree branch along the Appalachian Trail on the way to Silar Bald near Franklin, NC. It lent itself better to B&W than color. The photo was scanned using a Minolta Dual Scan Elite II. It was converted to B&W using the Channel Mixer and tweaking with curves. Sharpening was applied only to the tree itself and not the background using masking and the background was burned-in using masking.
