Consolacion is famous for these very large ollas (this one is over 13 inches tall) but due to her age and poor health she has, for several years, been unable to make them. I made the coment on one of my trips to the village that I would like to get one of her very large ollas but she said she just can't make them any more. This olla was hanging above her bed in a rope hanger. I ask her about it and she told me she built it about 12 years ago but had never fired it because it cracked durring the drying process. I didn't think any more about it and left the village. I returned about 3 months later and the olla was sitting on her bed. I ask why she had taken it down. She said "to fire it for you" I was floored. this olla was built 12 years before it was fired and even though it had cracked durring the drying process it still survived the firing. I can't even find the place where it cracked.
