Bush pilot

Pt. Hope, NW Alaska

The reason most Bush pilots prefer this sort of flying to "driving a bus" for a major airline is because they sleep in their own bed every night. This guy had just delivered a 207 full of bread to Pt. Hope, the oldest human settlement in the New World. After a vacation trip to San Francisco, where I lived before moving to Alaska, I commented to this guy that my old friends didn't seem as interesting as I'd remembered them. He answered "Do you think they'd be more intense if they had to land an over-loaded 207 three times a day at Pt. Hope in a 50-knot crosswind with 500 feet of visibility and a herd of caribou on the runway?"
