"The" car that started it all!
In 1974 Porsche decided to explore new territory with the Carrera RSR Turbo in preparation for the new Group 5 “Silhouette” formula coming up in 1975. With funding from Martini & Rossi, Porsche’s Norbert Singer had all the tools necessary for his test bed, combining technology from its 917/30 CanAm and RSR Programs. Working with Dunlop, Shell and KKK (Kuhnle, Kopp and Kaush AG) Turbochargers the RSR Turbo Carrera was the result.
Weighing in at 750 kg, producing 500HP @ 7600RPM from a 2,142cc. A top speed
Close to 300 km/h with 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds, 0 to 200km/h in 8.8 seconds.
The Carrera RSR Turbo exceeded expectations with several outstanding results including a second place overall at 24 hours of LeMans and 6 hours of Watkins Glen. Needless to say, the Carrera RSR Turbo was an important part in the development of the 935, which was to become so dominate in the years to come.
