A Nursing Leopard Mother...

As we left the Cape Buffalo herd, the Zulu tracker called to the Ranger and we were off across the bush veld at a good clip. The Ranger explained that the tracker had heard a leopard and we were off to check it out.

We found the leopard and the ranger informed us that it was a rare sighting as she was a lactating mother and had just recently given birth. He said it was unusual to find nursing mothers near the trails and roads; they usually satyed very close to their den and their cubs. This mother was undoubtedly out seeking food to be able to continue nursing her brood. We wacthed her (and she watched us). Eventually she climbed up a rocky ediface and disappeared into a cragy area. The Ranger speculated her brood was safe in a small cave or overhang in the rocks.
