NEW ORLEANS STREETCAR RETURNS TO CANAL STREET

A wonderful sight to see, especially decorated for Christmas.
Three and one-half months after Hurricane Katrina, a limited number of streetcars are rolling on a very limited route on Canal Street only.
The famous St. Charles Avenue electrical line and rails will cost millions to fix and many of the flooded streetcars need repair. The red cars that rolled on Canal Street were all damaged in the water so Canal Street is borrowing a few "New Orleans green" St. Charles line cars. All rides will be free until the middle of March.

That's great news, and a splendid shot. The palm tree in the background look so wierd in the same picture as the Christmas decorations!

It's so wonderful to see this return to service and the greenery is a wonderful embellishment. I heard Bush babbling about NO yesterday on TV. Sorry, to charecterize him that way and no political opinion intended but he really wasn't saying anything substantive about anything.

This old car still looks well taken care of. I heard on the radio this morning that they my try to have several new ones by next year. I still like the green cars better though. Nice shot Coleen, you even caught the driver's face in the sunlight.
