6th Place
Sweet Threesome

by Helen Betts

Ankara, Turkey

I haven't had a candy cane in years, and I guess I had forgotten how easily they break. I originally had something different in mind and, after searching high and low at the base exchange, finally found some candy canes tucked away. I bought 12 of them, but by the time I was ready to shoot, only a few were left in one piece. (My dog, however, had a field day cleaning up the floor :-))

Excellent!! Just excellent, Helen. My kind of card... simple, with eye catching colors.

Thank you, everybody, for your comments. The funny thing is, with the candy canes shattering and making a mess all over the place, I took my pictures (sticky fingers and all, shooting with the "wrong" hand while holding on to the canes), proccessed them, took a few more, and then threw the candy canes away. I think I can wait a few more Christmases before seeing another one! Helen

Great job Helen. I agree that the font matches perfectly! I also like the dark background and excellent metering.

Great composition - I love the bright red&white candy canes on the black background and the red and white text!

Helen, what a great card - minimalism at it's best! Wonderful lighting and composition and your chosen font is the perfect go-along. Thanks for the treat :-) Bev

Helen, I really, really like this. I love how the font colors mimic the candy canes. It is such a 3D photo. Great job, wonderful Christmas Card!!

Helen, this is indeed professional photography. I love this shot. So colorful with only two colors on a black background. Sinan of Ankara.

Still laughing at your caption Helen :) Hey, three out of twelve ain't so bad! You certainly put the few you had left to good use; the card is just beautiful. It looks like I could just reach out and grab one! Just what I need, more calories. I like the simplicity of the three colors too, that really looks nice. Wonderful entry for the challenge, I like it.

Helen, I love candy canes; and this is an eye-catching shot of them. Nice contrast between your subjects and background...well exposed too. The composition is simple and effective...the repeating shapes and colorful patterns are very appealing to look at. Your placement and choice of font color seem just right. A very "sweet" holiday greeting...& nicely done. MFC

Simple yet striking image, Helen. It's very seasonal. I like your chosen composition of repeating patterns, strong diagonals and inclusion of those curves. This is a very nice image.
