02Dec05 Baby Shamu - 8184

Seaworld Orlando

Photo a Day, Day 247..10 Day old Baby Shamu swimming next to its mother... After the main Shamu show they pretty much let the Orcas do what they want and the mother and baby decided to swim into the show tank (they were not in the show). It was interesting trying to time when the little one was going to come up for air and I have a lot of shots of it's dorsal fin as it is going back in. It is amazing how tiny it is compared to its mother - and yet it is still quite large compared to most 10 Day old creatures.
A Great Big Thank You to the Seaworld photographers who let me clean my sensor - after using the 100-400 quite a bit during the various shows I had some MAJOR ickies on my sensor which were showing up even in the tiny preview lcd... and I had nothing to clean it with... They were certainly lifesavers!

As a fan of whales this photo is so cute of Shamu as a calf but it really looks like his mum can be just a little gentle in this picture.
