1st Place
Morning Commute*
by David Willis

Alt. title "Caught in the storm" ! (Cambridge,MA)

Ok...this photo, I am excited about. As simple as it is, it took a bit of work to produce. I'd love comments and suggestions about how to really perfect this image...my questions are:

1) Cropping? Anything to add?

2) Umbrella? Should it be a multi-color, duo-color or single black as it is now. I sketched the photo with a duo-brolly and it seemed to look cool...not sure tho.

3) Title...?

4) Instead of the current drop I thought of putting a "generic" persciption drug in its place (like a yellow and red tubule like drug)...would that add to the photo...It'd change meaning and depths!!! Like protection from drugs???

5) Anythign else!

The idea of this photo is as follows:

I was comming into work and it was raining buckets....I saw the umbrella of the man infront of me against the cloudy sky and thought...wow! the top of an umbrella shot well would make a great photo...but how to capture the rain...seeing as we are minimalists for the next week still....I thought it'd be funny to have 1 drop of water falling...the bare element of the storm...and the minimal amount of the umbrella to show what my morning commute looked like in a mnimalistic manner... So, as wet as I got...there was a small take-away!

Many thanks,
:-D

How about now...I used a suare to change the contrast/brightness...must be picking up better on your monitors than mine....I tried to do it a little better this time...arghh...maybe I will have to retake the photo! Arghh...arghhh...arghhh!

Thanks tho' for the feedback, certainly wouldn't want that on the photo!!!!

Yup, I'm with Victor - vertical lines either side of the dot.

For me, personally, the image is too tall as well...

Just like in "Star Wars" where you can see squares following the fighters around space, I can see a square around your dot. You probably want to do something about that. -- Victor

Thanks all for the feedback...I "dodged the ball" if you know what I mean -- updated the drop aparent transparency...Thank you all for taking the time out to comment! I am really beginning to appreciate this minimalism concept and will likely start taking more minimalistic shots int he future....

Again thanks for looking & commenting. Happy thanksgiving all!

Nice! I wouldn't be opposed to a black dot, but I'm fine with it as is as well. ~ Lonnit

D, If I this were mine, I would have chosen a drop of clear water (transparant) instead of something else. The black umbrella is just fine and work for me. Excellent interpretation . I like it. -Cat

I too am working one something with "water" and sky. I already too the picture 2-3 days back. Still thinking whether to post it or not.

I like this idea and that teh drop is round. It seems too blue though. Ought to be a little more clear...

Opps, it's an umbrella, got it now -- aam1234

I like it. But not sure on the relationship of the dot to the umbrella. Should the dot be more rain drop shaped?
Canon DSLR Challenge23-Nov-2005 16:39
Hi :-D

My first reaction was... why isn't the dot in direct line to the nozzle (?) it seems the dot has been shot out from it, at least to me. That doesn't mean you should/shouldn't change anything. Personally, I like it as it is.

It jst occured to me that those "see-through" umbrella's would be perfect for this. Anyone know where you can get one (not too pricey, US stores also)...
