Anchoring

Jeremy bought me this pen and I love it. Not only is it beautiful, it's made of silver (which I'm very fond of) and it's Italian (I love all things Italian). But another reason I adore it is that when I was doing my Management Consultancy training we did a course on Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and one of the sessions was around a technique called anchoring. In one of the sessions we had to think of something that was difficult for us and then choose something that made us feel good and associate the two things (or anchor them). I chose giving presentations as the difficult thing and this pen to be the anchor and then I carried out the anchoring exercise. It worked for me... I've given presentations to large numbers of people often blagging about things I know very little about with just this pen to give me confidence. If I ever lose it I'll be in deep trouble.

Neurolinguistic Programming O_o given the discussion on anchoring, it sounds like programming people to think a certain way? kind of scary when put in that context. :)
