The Raccoon That Would Eat My Face

New Orleans City Park

The day I cleaned the stone bridge in City Park it was very hot and after a while I thought I would pass out so I sat on the bridge's bottom step. I put my head between my knees and when I picked it up a raccoon was a few feet away from my face. It was very hungry so I fed it bread and corn I had in the car for the swans and ducks.
I was picking seeds (acorns) from one of the ancient oaks and had my hands in the branches. I looked in to meet the eyes of this same raccoon about six inches from my face, still hungry, about to get my hand. Poor thing, this time it had to eat cat food that I had in the car for the homeless cats in town. I do not think there is anything in the Park for it to eat; most vegetation is dead, unless they eat acorns.

A very lucky little critter to have happened upon you, I'd say.

You are an angel of mercy for helping out these poor creatures. Glad you didn't feed him your face though. Speaking of faces, this guy sure does have a cute one.

He does look hungry. The one who eats all of my birdseed is about 5 times his size.

certainly has no fear of you... nice animal photo

Don't worry about the racoon not having enough to eat. Cat food doesn't bother them one bit.Nice shot of the 'coon.

Everyone is right, he does have a sad, pleading look. Please be careful, but is is so wonderful for you to be taking care of the animals. This is an amazing photo.

Aww, he even looks sad. Raccoons are usually pretty resourceful and will eat just about anything but I guess there's nothing left.

Cute photo! One of my favorite animals. Sounds like it has you very well trained, too. I'm sure there's lots to eat in the park without being hand fed.,
