The center of Portugal is divided in two by the river Tejo that comes from Spain and enters the Atlantic ocean in Lisbon, so, to go from the center north to the south you always have to cross a bridge. Thgis is the newest bridge in Lisbon that allows to travel by car to the sunny beaches in the Algarve.
