U at Buffalo South Campus

Went for a walk with my old Minolta SLR and my little Olympus Z580. You know the little Olympus really holds it's own.

Check out my In Box at http://www.pbase.com/dhnieman/inbox the first six (6) images were taken today with my little old Oly pop shooter.

I want to step up in my camera, however, I have a conundrum. I would like an DSLR and I think I would like to buy the Minolta Maxxum 5D. I can then use my two lenses I currently own.

But, I take most of my photos while riding my bike, so a smaller all in one camera, might be nice. Really tempted not to go DSLR and get the little Canon S2 IS or the Panasonic DMC FZ30.

Then again, after holding my old Minolta I sure like the heavy solid feel of a real sturdy camera.

Oh um what's a guy to do?

Excellent shot of this handsome building. This is the way college campuses are supposed to look! ;-)

Lovely shot. I can't answer your question... I'd buy both and that's not much help!

Lovely fall school shot Don. Interesting question... the thought has passed thru my head a few times about a PS since they are much more flexible these days... but I end up saying no. I just take a small well padded bag with the 20D if I know I'll be roughing it.

First of all, good shot. Very compelling fall scene. Second, get both! The new P&S cameras have lots of pixels, good range, and reasonable price. Then get the DSLR for other photography, because once you have it, your interests will expand.

Lovely photo BTW - awesome colour and perspective on a beautiful building.

I have managed, in great extravagance, to acquire two digitals: my CanonS50 which I pop into my bike bag, or even take on trail runs, screwed into a telescoped monopod and my DSLR - the D70 - which I take when I'm going out mainly to shoot pictures. The combination works great for me and the photos I take from both are as good as each other.

Ditto on the 20d. I love mine but I want to get a canon elph to have on those odd days when it is too cumbersome to carry my 20d.

Gorgeous shot!
Good luck on the conundrum. I had a tough time deciding myself - my 35mm was was Pentax - Ended up selling the Pentax stuff and going Canon. Love the 20D and the feel of a REAL camera compared to the Sony F717 I had been using. Though their are times I wish I just had a little Canon ELF to carry in my pocket... I wouldn't trade the DSLR for anything just so much more you can do with it.
