Horace Greeley

By John Quincy Adams Ward, 1890
Horace Greeley was a newspaper editor, a reformer, and a politician. His New York Tribune was America's most influential
newspaper from the 1840s to the 1870s. He's perhaps most remember now for his suggestion "Go West, young man."

Great photo (and wonderful site!). The location of this statue is of importance - in the 19th Century, Park Rpw was called "newspaper row,' amd actually contained the tallest building in the world from 1890-1894, Joseph Pulitzer's "New York World" headquarters. The New York Times, The New York World, The Sun and Horace Greeley's "New York Tribune" were all headquartered on Park Row to take advantage of the proximity to both City Hall and Wall Street.
