one of oldest brick buildings in Virginia, Adam Thoroughgood House, Virginia Beach, VA, on Lynnhaven Inlet. Built probably by Adam Thoroughgood's son or grandson, on Thoroughgood family 5000+ acres. Earlier house nearby had been wooden. Adam T. was an early settler in area (1620's), from Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England, and named the Norfolk, VA, town. House was restored in 1950s, but was largely intact: original walls, bricks, mortar, chimneys, even roof structure. Later-era modifications were removed inside, except for some early 1750s woodwork, panelling and staircase. House today is essentially of 1680-1750 appearance and style furnishings.
