Where The Land Meets The Water, Ensenada, Baja, Mexico (Plus Intro Story)

A good time? That's damned high and it was chilly up there. In truth, I was more or less trapped into doing this. A legend in the the travel world, (or at least in the Travel World I know), was flying in to San Diego for the Monday Night Football game and sent a message asking if he came in early would I be available to hang with him a little?

Would I? Andy is like magic...he's been kidnapped in Colombia, avoided being sold to the FARC, and eventually was able to make a jungle escape. He had bad immigration trouble while in Thailand and outwitted mountain bandits in Northern India if I remember correctly...Like I say, Andy is magic and he wanted to see me, among others of course. It went something like this....

Around 12:30, a group consisting of myself, Andy, and two addtional friends, just back from living in Western China, had gathed for introductions in San Diego.

Andy suggested we all head out to Ensenada in that I and Rick had never been there. Here's how it is with Andy...we are in his brand new, freshly rented SUV, we're heading to the border to buy Mexican car insurance...but Andy left the rental contract and other papers back at his hotel. I say turn arround, it's only a mile or less back, let's go get the car paperwork.

Andy says, We'll be fine...don't worry all the time Traveller! Omnis and Rick laugh and I point out that this is why he is a legend and I am not.

In any case, it's just four very interesting guys, and Omnis and Rick were each great in their own unique ways...telling stories, laughing, eating beef jerky and Doritos as we probably illegally head down the Mexican highway into Baja.

About half way, but quite at random, I ask to pull off the highway to take some pictures. Entirely by Serendipitous luck I say go a little further and Andy winds down some narrow streets and we end up...where they are renting horses on the beach and some guys have these fabulous Ult-Lite planes.

Andy: Let's do it, and he smiles that winning smile of his.

Traveller: Are you crazy? Put me up there in one of those things?!?!?

Andy & Omnis gave me that...head down, but still looking at you kind of stare...that says, you just went down the Amazon by yourself, by your lonesome...so who are you trying to kid?

But I was terrified. I hate heights...I am certified to jump out of airplanes having done my jump school at Ft. Benning...but I've never been happy leaving for the cruelty of gravity, a perfectly fine airplane.

So I did it...on a dare.

Later, we rented our own boat for a tour of Ensenada it's harbor, the half sunk boats, the sea lions, ect

It was a time...lol. But now I am back at work.

Best wishes,

Traveller
