Desolation by Flick Merauld - 4th Place

City streets, Oxford, UK

23 year old homeless man.
Image used with permission of the subject
(who wants people to be aware of the plight of the homeless).

Nikon F801s ,Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D AF ,Kodak Tri-X 400
Tri-X is already gritty, contrasty film and scanning has emphasised that quality at the expense of midtones, but maybe that adds to the starkness of the statement the image makes. full exif

Really like this one the film quality of the photo really brings the feel of the shot of a real person in the real world not staged but living it. Rare these days.CCClark

The eyes tell a very deep and haunted story. A very powerful image Flick. Kate

Thanks Dirk.
I looked at your site yesterday and fell in love with the soft, luminous sepia seagull man image.

Great image and what a face, well done. I thought writing that it has a real film look and I love that but read just in time that it was done on film.

Regards,

Dirk

Thanks Quentin. I miss grain too, proper, random film grain instead of nasty track lines you get with digital. In fact, in some ways, I miss quite a lot about film - but I don't miss the processing aspect!!
