12th October 2005 - no photo ops at the ball

OK OK - you know and I know that this pic is completely pants. Why, when I’ve spent my evening at London’s swankiest restaurant (The Ivy), have I not managed to come up with a better shot than this? Well, because I was the host of the party and I had guests to entertain, a presentation to make and awards to dish out. So, my camera came out of my bag once only and I took this one pic when we were back in our hotel room at about 1am after seeing the last of our guests off.

Was the party a success? I reckon so and I certainly had loads of very positive feedback from our guests as they were leaving. I’m extremely glad really because after the uphill struggle of the last couple of years, we seem now to have found a winning formula for the event.

I must say that the Ivy is an absolutely wonderful place, both in terms of its ambience and the quality of its food. I can’t begin to do justice in description to the amazing flavour of the butternut squash tortellini that was served to us veggies. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

When I got up this morning (I’m writing this on the morning of 13th), I looked at my pic and said ‘I can’t post that, I’m off round the corner to do an outside shot of the restaurant and I’m going to post it regardless of the fact it wasn’t taken on the day’. But in the end, I decided to go with this shot because I’ve done it every day for 2 ½ years and I’m not going to give in to that temptation.

So, here I am, lounging across DM’s body (in my very tipsy state, I thought this was a good composition but of course the full horror of its appallingly bad composition and total lack of sharpness, except on the table lamp that seems to be growing out of my shoulder, has hit me today). DM did say 'just turn it into black and white and add a load of grain just like many pbasers do and no-one will ever notice. I did choose b&w just because of the bloodshot eyes but couldn't bring myself to go down the add grain route. Oh and please no lewd comments about this pose. Sorry folks, normal service will be resumed sometime soon…..

Last year I posted two shots today - one in the morning, in the UK as well as one at night, in New Jersey - I must say, I thought that was one of my finest ideas and I love it and two years ago, I was being a white van woman

BTW I didn't bother to 'sign' this because I thought anyone sad enough to steal such a crap shot is welcome to it!!!

Every picture tells a story and this one says, "Here I am relaxed and comfortable after an evening out."

Hey, it could have been worse, the lampshade could have been planted on your head! Besides you would never have forgiven yourself if you'd cheated :-)

Glad to hear that the awards went well.

Note to self " Don't do B&W + grain in same shot!!"
