Giant Ichneumon

LA-HO Trail, Codorus SP, York Co. PA

Megarhyssa nortoni

FAMILY ICHNEUMONIDAE

The Ichneumon female uses her long antennae to "listen" for vibrations of borers beneath the bark of a tree,
than with the long ovipositor drills into the borer's canal to lay an egg. When the egg hatches, the larvae will kill and feast on a dead borer.
