An extremely common and widespread fern in New Zealand. Best specimens are in high rainfall districts, and in cultivation it is a very thirsty fern. Away from the western seabord in the UK, it is difficult to get it to grow very large because of its demand for water. The new fronds start uncoiling in late winter.
