10/1/05 Reel Pleasures Christening

view map

On Saturday the new boat "Reel Pleasures" headed about 50 miles offshore just north of the Washington Canyon in search of mahi mahi. It was about time we christened her with her first fishing trip. We heard reports of large weed lines, mahi live under patches of Sargassan seaweed and are one of the most beautiful, fun fighting and best tasting fish you can find anywhere. Fortunately, we had no trouble finding the weed line.....let the games begin!

The crew consisted of Polo, Shannon, Burt, Frank and Stuey. It was Polo and Shannon's first trip offshore, they adapted very quickly once the fish showed up! We chunked for several hours catching a good number of mahi mahi. Then, Frank notices a large splash several hundred yards away so we decided to try our luck at trolling. 3 lines in the water and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......fish on. After a 15 minute battle, we christened the boat with it's first yellowfin tuna. Good eye Frank! After trolling for a short while, it was time to head home and start cleaning the mess we had created....
