Mary Jane Pace

After reading through about 80% of what everyone is doing or has done, I don't know what to tell about my self and family.

I've been married to the same wonderful man for 38 years and we have 2 wonderful daughters, Amy (35) and Ivy (25). There was a long dry spell between children.

We have lived in Galveston almost 30 years and about 8 years ago we bought an old home (built in 1886) to renovate. What a chore! But a wonderful house at any rate. It was broken down into 3 apartments so Bud and I have an apartment and so do/did both of the girls. Ivy is still home. Told her we would not build a nursery on and don't look for her to leave any time soon either. Amy is married, lives in Houston, has produced our one and only granddaughter, Madeliene, who is 6 1/2 months old.

UPDATE MAY 2009

Now everything revolves around Miss Maddie! To hell with the house... it will be here long after I'm gone. We beat a path to Houston every chance we have. Galveston is about the slowest moving place I've ever been and afraid it has rubbed off on me. Since Amy moved to Houston, we moved my sewing, quilting and an office to her apartment.

Don't know what else to tell all of you. I have been gone from Memphis too long and haven't kept in touch with anyone. I'm happy and have a wonderful family. To me this is life !

UPDATE MAY 2009

Amy, my older daughter and is 40 and my other daughter, Ivy, is 30. Hell, I never thought about myself as being 40 much less have a daughter that age! She's married to Ben Blakeney who is in the IT department at Mary Kay Cosmetics headquarters in Dallas. They have 2 children Maddie (5) and Bud (3), 2 dogs and a cat. Since I'm not the sitter type of Nana, the children attend a Montessori school during the day. Ben has a degree in History from the University of Houston and an IT degree from, where else but Texas A & M.

Amy graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Social Work. Then received her MSW from the University of Houston. After they moved to Dallas, Amy started her doctorate program at he University of Texas and was selected as outstanding student in her class. I'm so proud of her. I'm not certain but I don't believe she's made anything under an A during any of her master's or doctorate studies. She may have made a B in stats, but I'm not sure.

Bud, my husband of 40 years died four years ago and my daughters decided it was too much trouble for me and themselves to pack and board-up the house for hurricanes, they decided my dog (Deoggie) and I should move to the Dallas area with Amy and her family. Amy and Ben made an addition onto the house for me that is large enough to include a small kitchen area, too. The end of August will be my 2-year anniversary up here; I think it's going to work out! I really do love it up here.

Mary Jane, I am Bud's cousin Betsy. My grandmother was Ethel Barbieri Miles, Tudy's sister. It is wonderful to connect with you. My family was transferred to Lorain, Ohio in the late 50's. After my grandmother, my cousin Hope and the aunts passed, our family lost touch. I am so sorry Bud died, he taught me how to jump on the trampoline and used to let me pet the collies (I was allergic to dogs and not allowed...but he knew how much I loved them). How is Ditty? Does she live nearby...do you keep in contact? My mom and dad are both dead, my mom passed a year ago on Mother's Day. I managed to keep in erratic contact with Bud and Rita Hill (Taunt Mabel's kids) and sadly Bud died too. I lost my husband 16 years ago so I can imagine how you feel. Your face looks familiar, did I meet you at the trampoline place? My two sisters and brother are here in Lorain also. John has one son, Danny, Therese (Cissie) has Scott, Christopher,(named for grandaddy) & Kathleen Therese for my mother and her mother, Jean Marie is single, and I have Mackie, Judith Regina (named for Taunt Mabel, and John Christopher for grandaddy. Mackie has a daughter Crystal with two little girls (my great granddaughters Mia (named for my husband) and Zoe. I call them Peter and Repeat since they are replicas of their mom. Jude has 3 boys, Marv named for his Dad, Jake named for my dad, and Paul just for himself. My youngest John is single.Odd that your daughter is in social work. I have always loved history and the arts, but after 15 years at the Free Clinic and 7 with Catholic Charities, I decided if I was going to do this, I needed to learn to do it well. I am now studying with Youngstown State in my junior year....and boy do I understand your daughter's "B" in stats! Bud and Ditty were always smart....especially in math. Ditty and my mom were hard acts to follow at St Agnes. Warriors....was that Central High School? Too many years away from home. I belong to Find A Grave and through them accidently found Taunt Alma'sw great granddaughter, Adelaide Micale. What a fantastic kid. She has been researching on ancestry as well, so we compare notes. Her grandmother was Toogie. Has anyone heard from Stevie Duffy, Alice Elizabeth's son? He married Sue Ann Selak from St. Agnes. I need to research him too. I found all the entries where Timothy Hope and his family died during the yellow fever epidemic, horrible, all within a week and he was the last to die....leaving great grandmother and her brother orphans who were raised by their Walsh cousins. I also found my mother's birth family, she knew that before she died, and am trying to reconnect with them. There were 8 children in her mother's family so there are lots. Would love to hear from you....I may call if I get a few moments uninterrupted. My cell is 440 320 6658 and email nimue43@gmail.com, Betsy Konya, Lorain Ohio on Facebook. Hope to hear from you soon.
