Clay Carter

Greetings to my classmates at Springdale, Snowden, and Central! After graduation, I studied chemical engineering at the University of Tennessee (UT) where I participated in the work-study program at the DuPont Company just north of Memphis. I received the BSChE (1968) and JD Degrees (1973) from UT. I also hold a MPH Degree (1988) from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Further, I pursued graduate studies in chemical engineering (UT) and in patent and antitrust law (George Washington University) without completing the thesis requirements.
In June of 1968, I married the love of my life, Linda Knight of Erin, Tennessee. We met in 1963 at UT, Martin, and she graduated with Leonard Engleberg in 1968 with a degree in pharmacy. Linda has given us two great children: Rebecca (1973) and Matthew (1979) Carter. Rebecca graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 1998 with a degree in elementary education. Matt graduated in April, 2004 with a degree in history from Western Michigan University. Both are leaning toward more studies, but a final decision on what, where, or when has not been made. Rebecca has blessed us with two amazing grandchildren: Joey (1999) and Casey (2001). We expect many more.

My interests involve trying to find the time for activities such as, reading, scuba diving, antiques, photography, investing, church-related activities, and restoration of old cars and motorcycles. Time and procrastination are my enemy.

I am a licensed attorney in several states, and a registered patent attorney in the US and a patent agent in Canada. Linda is also a registered pharmacist in many of the same states. She specializes in hospital pharmacy and more specifically clinical pharmacy.

I would be glad to hear from my classmates and am grateful to those of you in Memphis, and elsewhere, who have worked so hard to keep us informed about each other and connected.
