The "white rim" tends to break up like this.

Windows form in a fin of sandstone, and then spread and join, until
what's left is just a row of pinnacles. Alex called these things "mushrooms".
As with the arches in Arches National Park, such evolving shapes are
a result largely of ice wedging.

Our road ran surprisingly close in some areas to this kind of rim...
Alex was an expert driver, and we were grateful for that!

We decided that we wouldn't want to drive that trail on our own -- partly because
the vehicle took quite a beating and we preferred it be someone else's vehicle getting the
punishment rather than ours.

We had enough excitement on this drive to consider it an adventure. And add to that
the fantastic views... We highly recommend this trip! It's a great way to see
Canyonlands National Park. We were so glad we hadn't just turned around
and gone back on the boat.
