Female Argiope aurantia
This beautiful spider hatched last fall, overwintered in an egg-sac, emerged in
the spring, grew all summer, now ready to lay her eggs and die as winter arrives.
She and her sister, a couple feet away, spun their webs at the edge of a
flower patch with many butterflies and bees, also preparing for winter.
