Our first night camping was in the Humboldt Toyabe National Forest at Lye Creek Campground. We had it to ourselves. The campground is located on the North side of Hinkey Pass at about 7400 feet elevation. North of Paradise Valley at the entrance to the Forest, the road (Road 84) turns to dirt but is was well graded and easily passable. It climbs up the pass through several switchbacks with great views to the South. The campground is access is via Road 87 which intersects Road 84 a couple miles North of the pass. Beyond the campground, Road 87 is labeled as a 4WD road but we didn't take time to explore it.
