Every year this particular species of spider makes a web under the northeast
corner of my eaves but this is the largest insect I've ever seen one catch.
To get this shot of the two about 7 feet off the ground, I leaned against
the corner of the house, on my tiptoes standing on some ferns so as not to
get my good shoes too muddy, as I was on my way to work. I also needed
to keep the large ivy leaves on the north wall from covering the flash.
I tried several shots at various focal lengths trying to increase the
depth-of-field but more than f/13 at 1/200th made the northern sky too
dark, and my footing was too unsteady to drop the shutter speed, either.
