Blueberries cover the boggy meadows after the spring runoff. Fortunately the berries line the trails also and are a great hiking treat.
Technically, the Indian tribes which reside in Oregon are entitled the subsistence rights to pick first, and areas are off-limits to non-natives.
Mt. Hood is designated a wilderness area, but it is so close to urban areas, that large animals such as black bears are rarely a threat to day-users.
