Depot at Monroe, Wisconsin
This Depot was built in 1888 when J.T.W. Jennings was commissioned to design a new passenger depot after the original depot was found to be too small. The older depot was west of the new structure and assumed the roll of Freight depot.
The last passenger train left the depot on June 20, 1958. After that the line was used for Freight till the Milwaukee Road filled for abandonment in 1979. After abandonment the line was run by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and is currently operated by the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad.
Historic Monroe, Inc saved this Depot from demolition in 1992. The building was purchased on the condition that it be moved off the property. In April 1993 the Depot was fitted with wheels and completed a journey to its new location at Highway 69 South and 21st street. The Depot was fully restored and now serves as the Historic Cheesemaking Museum and Visitors Center
