Cued Speech Charts

Sign Language takes TONS of books to learn or you need
to be socially involved in Deaf Culture for couple
of years to sign well.I think one never truly
masters the art of Sign Language. It has room for
expansion. It has room for creativity. Sign Language
is amazing in its own right!

Cued Speech on the other hand, as you can see in the
picture, ONLY takes one sheet of paper to learn and
you pick it up within a week. I had to take a picture
of two sheets otherwise you wouldn't see the back. :-)

I can honestly say Cued Speech is amazing as an
educational tool. It helps you read, write, and
speak/articulate your words better because you
see how words are said on the lips and on the hand.

I am hearing, and I sign. I am amazed watching people use Cued Speech -- it happens so fast -- how do you keep up? Can you really learn it in a week? It does take time to learn ASL, but many of the signs look like what they represent, so I always thought it easier than CS. What I'm realizing here is that phonemes don't change, whereas signs can change over time. And, you don't have the problem of how to deal with idioms like "let's digest that thought" when you're interpreting.

This reminds me that I still have the cued speech workbook from CUE CAMP VIRGINA! I still even remember some after so many years! ;-) I wish there were others that cue so I can practice. It's always fun to learn a different language, but in this situation, a different method of communication! :-) I guess if I need to remember some cue, I can always go back to this PBASE! ;-)
