Fireworks "on the Fly"
by Jerry Curtis

Maybe stretching the theme a little, but this was taken hand-held very much "on the fly". The organizers started the display without much notice so I didn't have time to set up a tripod. The bursts were going off right over our heads, so I just kept panning with the fireworks as they were leaving the ground (like a trap shooter), and firing an instant before I thought the burst was about to happen. I did get a few keepers (though a little shaky).

Jerry, I really like the interesting pattern you captured here...nice contrast with the black background. A number of the trailers look like feathers...and add even more to the aerial display. Looks like your "on the fly" technique was successful. Nice capture. MFC

Jerry, nice color and composition and good work without a tripod! Clever title as well :-). Helen

You achieved a neat look without your tripod, Jerry, and the "trailers" really stand out against the dark background. Bev

Beautiful (and fireworks DO fly, so...) I love all the colorful trailers shooting out from the central explosion; the effect you've achieved is quite unique.
