Dexter calf

Leckhampton, Cheltenham, UK

From a 2003 council press release:
"Cheltenham Borough Council is carrying out a trial to return cattle to Charlton Kings Common, where they have not grazed for at least 20 years.
The project intends to transform the north-facing slopes of the common back into a species-rich grassland, which dominated the area some 20 to 30 years ago.
If the trial proves to be successful it may be extended to other areas of Leckhampton Hill and Charlton Kings Common.

"The cattle being used are Black Dexters and one Limousin. Black Dexters are a traditional breed and they are particularly suited to this type of terrain
because their short stocky legs enable them to traverse steep slopes quite comfortably. They also convert the long course grasses very well,
and will be very effective in helping to establish a diverse grassland sward."

These were the first calves born on the hill....
