This is Pilot Mountain in North Carolina. Just down the road from Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy NC this Mountain and it;s town of the same name were the impitus for Andy's Mount Pilot.

Very nice, Doug. You certainly get a sense of the height of it - I'm glad I don't have to try to climb up that! Much nicer view from right here. :)

Doug; Great shot! Good detail all around, good perspective to show the height. Do you know the geology ? I wonder if it's a volcanic plug of some sort.
