8/14 - Over the Edge

Las Vegas, NV view map

This is the X-Scream, a thrill ride on top of the Stratosphere. It is a teeter-totter that drops you off the side of the tower and lets you dangle nearly 900 feet over the Strip below. Just watching it made my knees weak. The Strip runs up the left side of photo with TI in the background. This was as far to my right as I could get so this was as much of the Strip as I could get in the shot.

I just "found" these photos again after forgetting about them for the last year after the trip. You might see a couple more in the next few days.

After Marchael's comment below I thought I would go back an add this shot to show you what happens when the ride gets out to the end of the beam. It stops there for a second and then drops about 12 feet or so before slidding back to the other end of the teeter-totter. Had the ride just slide out I might have done it but once I saw the plunge there was no way.

As weird as this sounds, I think it would be scarier to be standing where you are than being on the ride. Just looking at this gives me a weak feeling in my stomach. I guess the feeling of being strapped in is more secure than standing amongst all the openness. Great shot!

I wonder how often the Stratosphere staff have to do a wet clean up on this ride? Excellent shot. My heart is still racing.
