Sahuarita Police

Sahuarita Arizona
(Pima County)

The Police Department began responding to 911
calls for the first time on September 15, 1997.
One chief, one sergeant, and four officers handled
24-hour-a-day police service. One civilian employee
acted as receptionist and records clerk, and the
Police Department was a 900 square foot modular
building. The first specialized position was added
in 1999 when the department purchased a police K-9.
A full-time detective was established in 2002 and a
motor unit went active in late 2004.

Since the inception of the department in 1997, the
population in the Town of Sahuarita has quadrupled.
Officers now patrol an area of roughly 30 square miles
and protect and serve approximately 12,000 citizens.
As of January 1st, 2005, the Sahuarita Police Department
staffed 24 sworn officers, 3 civilians and 12 volunteers.

Current assignments with the Sahuarita Police Department
include Chief of Police, Operations Supervisor, Field
Supervisors, Detective, D.E.A. task force investigator,
K-9. motor unit and School Resource Officer. The department
also actively participates in the Southern Arizona D.U.I
Task Force.
