9 August 2005 Coleen Perilloux Landry

August 9

I have been following this swan family since the cygnets were hatched almost five months ago. Until the cygnets bills turn orange they will be considered immature. Cygnets are known to stay with their parents as a family until they are three years old.
WRITTEN OCTOBER, 2005--This was one of the last times that I saw this family together. Hurricane Katrina struck on August 29 and none of these swans were found in City Park when I returned and I searched for them for months.

What a gorgeous series! Beautiful lighting & reflections, and that
little lad doesn't look at all fazed at the closeness of those
ganders!
Zak11-Aug-2005 10:12

It is great to see so many people comment and enjoy your images. This shot is an example of why. Well done!

Beautiful image, great composition, nice colors and light :)
Neal Nye10-Aug-2005 12:04
Three years? I wonder if they leave and then want to come back home for a while. Just 'till they get things straightened out. What a beautiful scene. You could sell this to any calendar company.
Karen Stuebing10-Aug-2005 09:39
So you'll have a couple more years to shoot wonderful photos like these? I like them all but especially the first one where they're framed by that beautiful stone bridge.
Steven Jusczyk10-Aug-2005 08:01
Very pretty!
viljamix10-Aug-2005 05:48
Wonderful! The nicely lit arch with the reflection, in addition the line of swans together, makes a perfect composition.
jypsee10-Aug-2005 04:07
Great timing on this... waiting for the group to get into the oval of the bridge and the reflection; the exposure is a tough one with all the bright and dark areas.
Gary Winters10-Aug-2005 03:40
Could be a cover for a children's book. Timeless and beautiful.
Karen Leaf10-Aug-2005 02:49
Hard to believe, but they are just about all grown up.
LOL at the others, you might have a problem if they start waddling after you :)
sschex10-Aug-2005 02:21
Where are the Bride and Groom when you need them?! Great shot.
petesie10-Aug-2005 02:20
This would be an outstanding image without the swans, but they make it over the top. GMV Wonderful composition and light.

Wonderful shot ... the third one seems to be checking to make sure the rest of the family is following. You have caught the wonderful textures in the bridge beautifully! :)

The composition in this image is very impressing. I love that bridge, in fact Coleen you really drew my attention toward them. They are gorgous.

I agree with Glendower. Beautiful composition and very tranquil.
Glendower09-Aug-2005 20:37
Beautiful composition. I am very impressed with way the reflected arc of the bridge is echoed by the tree branch that sweeps down to the water and also how the line of geese is framed within the bridge and the reflected arc of the bridge on top and bottom and framed as well by the reflected trees on their sides so that they seem to be swimming in a current of light. Bravo!

Very much a Monet look...I dread the thought of summer :>(
J. Scott Coile09-Aug-2005 20:18

northstar3709-Aug-2005 20:08
Just waiting for the feathers to turn white so they lose the 'ugly duckling' look.
