8/8/05 - Lonely Hibiscus

A lot of judges would "out" this image because the waterline is "centered". All they know is "rule of thirds." I've had it happen. Grrrrr
Certainly demonstrates how a proportionally small area of an image can dominate. Where's the first place your eye goes? To the red.

I agree with Coleen about the cattails and cropping. I intentionally included the cattails for framing, interest and context. But - beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and one easily can see another image within this larger one that is more like the one Mark suggests. It just isn't the one I happened to choose this time around. Maybe next time.

very nice catch

I love this. I would NOT crop the bottom as the cattails reflection would be lost. In fact, I wouldn't crop it at all. I think it is lovely.

Nice contrasting colours. A centered shoreline is not bad when you have a nice reflection like this. I would like to crop it a little bit to the left, top and bottom. The weeds to the left are somewhat disturbing and you would get a more distinct constrast between the single red flowers and the bigger green bushy plant.
