I just spent a few minutes looking at both versions, and while I can certainly see the improvement in the path and the shadows and even the grass, the compression gave leaves on the trees in the old version a odd sort of shimmering brightness, sort of like pointillist paintings (Seurat etc, which I have always liked), and which I thought was effective. The new version also has better depth, though, sort of drawing you in towards the bright area where the path seems to curve away.... Great image both ways.

OK...should be fixed now. Thank you to whomever taught me to always leave the original from-the-camera photo alone and saved!

Actually...I just discovered something! I recently got a new computer, and installed my PSP8 on it. I thought I set everything the same as on my old computer, but like a meathead, I forgot to change the default compression settings for saving to jpeg. For the past 3 weeks, I've been saving my jpegs at compression 15!! So after running a standard dose of USM at .5/150/0, then compressing to level 15...that's why it looks so cruddy. Tonight, I'm going to resave this 800x600 version again, with less compression, and it should look a little better!

I can see what kudbegud means about oversharpening, but I like the effect....

Lovely scene, Justin. I never would have guessed Disney World, though...

Not anytime soon! This was taken at Disney World, and I won't be up there again until late this month. On sharpening...it might be a bit oversharp...hard to tell on my monitor. I did run USM when I resized the original. Thanks for the critique and ideas...something to look for when I'm up there next time!

very nice shot Justin. perhaps it the pbase view, but it looks a little processed: the leaves look over sharpened. can you reshoot with the path not going straight up the middle but curving away to one side? and with a little more contrast so this lovely pathway has more dynamic range?
