California Food

West Virginia

I had an opportunity to meet some upscale people from southern California. I was running late so didn't have time to stop for a sausage biscuit. Which is probably just as well since I would have smelled like pork fat no doubt.

I got there and there were snacks set out in some covered dishes. I uncovered them and found...dried up fruit and some kind of trail mix bars. I tried a banana and almost broke my tooth. I moved on the bars. They tasted like sawdust. I ate a couple anyway because I was hungry and figured they must be healthy.

But I needed something to wash them down with. There were vitamin packed Powerade drinks. Nobody here was going to ever have vitamin deficiencies. I asked if there was anything with caffeine in it. Like Mountain Dew or Amp. Yeh, there was hot coffee. It was only 89 degrees so I put some ice in it.

I found some peanuts and I was scarfing them down using my hand to scoop them out. Someone pointedly handed me a cup. Oh yeh, that's right. Germs.

Then there was one guy who spent the day eyeing me suspiciously after I took refuge in a really nice SUV during a thunderstorm. I was bored so I started picking things up and examining them.

Smoking was also problematic. I was stared at like I was an alien every time I lit a cigarette up. Hey, I'm cool with that. I removed myself to a hundred yards away from the nearest person when I wanted one so no trace of second hand smoke could enter those pristine lungs.

Humor aside, I enjoyed meeting these folks. They were really nice and friendly.

You are funny. You need to start publishing some of your sketches! This trail mix is only consumed when hiking--we actually eat decent food out here!

The orange fruit jumps right off the page at you. It blends well with the pewter/alumnium bowl.
