28th July 2005 - Sarahs

I’ve had a really tough old day again today, rushing around like the proverbial blue arsed fly!

I had a meeting at my offices with a publishing company that we work with this morning, reviewing our activities with them and setting up next year’s efforts, then I climbed into my car, raced forty miles around the M25 to see a ‘prospect’ (someone we’d like to have as a client). I spent three hours there, starting with a very hospitable lunch then a two hour presentation, where I did the ‘corporate’ bit and Louise did the main bit. Then I raced back to our office (even though the client was much closer to home than to the office) so I could interview someone for a job in our team late this afternoon. A long discussion with our head of HR followed, then another scoot home.

By the time I got here I felt as though I’d been through a mangle – I’d driven 140 miles and spent more-or-less the entire rest of the day ‘on parade’. It was gruelling!

Anyway, tonight is a nice antidote to that, with a visit from one of the Sarahs who I feel proud to call a friend. Sarah H called round to chill over a beer, some supper and a gossip. Sarah is a really nice lady who was, until recently, my PA as well as working for a couple of the other Directors of our business. She left us a couple of months ago to go to work for a bank in Central London much to my dismay as she was one of my ‘rocks’ and could always be counted on to chat to me while I was sitting in airports, on my mobile phone to her, crying about having to get on planes. She also looked after stuff so nicely I barely had to ask her before what I’d asked for was done. I reckon her new boss is a lucky man.

This shot is a rather hurried portrait because I want to get on with the pleasure of sitting around with Sarah chatting, drinking and eating!!!

There are three Sarahs in my life at the moment who I regard as friends. A work colleague who has shared the responsibility for trudging round the world training our colleagues in our new service and of course WHL Sarah who has been rather quiet recently. She popped a message on my pic the other day saying she’d been celebrating her wedding anniversary on the day I was celebrating my ‘big win’ and so I emailed my congratulations. Her response was shocking and sad as she is going through a tough time with her family at the moment and has had to go scooting off to Bristol to look after folks. I wish her and her family a lot of love at this horrible time for them all.

Two years ago ratty cars were my subject and in one of those amazing quirks of fate, last year's pic was of WHL Sarah!

I like this portrait, her personality really shines!

You must be exhausted! Is it a sanctuary weekend?
