This actor came with his troop to the temple, to pay hommage to a recently deceased elder monk. Likay theater is best described as folk vaudeville for the low classes, so to speak. To me, it is a fascinating window on older popular forms of village entertainment, now struggling against the onslaught of TV and other western forms of entertainment. It combines romance, slapstick comedy and moral tale, played in garishly sewn costumes, and can be seen around the countryside, often during temple events and fairs.
