Out our way the young and the old are fascinated by the magic of pyrotechnic displays to celebrate the Fourth of July. These two little girls (Lisa and Emma) hold dual passports (US and French). They are too young to understand the meaning and significance of this date.

I'm currently reading General George Washington: A Military Life by Edward G. Lengel. The author does an excellent job of conveying the trauma and hardships that Washington and his little band of revolutionary fighters experienced in order to insure that the Declaration of Independence would be more than just a brave affirmation of intent.
